Marmorino KS Venetian Plaster – Satin Matte Plaster

Marmorino KS is our favorite Venetian plaster. It is the one we’ve chosen to use in our own home and its matte and satin finish make this an extremely versatile and popular choice for a variety of projects.

From bedrooms and living rooms to bathrooms and even fireplaces, we’ve used Marmorino KS to create a timeless and perfectly subtle yet beautiful finish for these spaces and projects. Marmorino KS results in an “eggshell” shine level, which gives you that subtle sheen that’s not ultra-shiny but still reminiscent of classic Venetian plaster. Balanced right between textured non-shiny and mirror-like shine, Marmorino KS is, in our opinion the perfect everyday versatile wall finish to use in any space of your home.

What is Marmorino KS Venetian Plaster?

Marmorino KS is a matte to semi-gloss Venetian plaster. This plaster gives soft movement and can be applied in a many different formats from smooth to textured finish.

Why choose Marmorino KS?

Marmorino KS offers a great in-between from very matte and very shiny options and can offer more subtle movement and a more toned-back look.

How does Marmorino KS compare to other Venetian plasters?

Compared to other Venetian plasters Marmorino KS is a good middle ground, offering flexibility between styles. Unlike a Grassello Fino that is very shiny or a Calce Cruda that is very matte, Marmorino KS provides a subtle sheen that makes it more versatile for a variety of applications.

What You’ll Need: Recommended Tools

Just like with other Venetian plasters, you’ll need a variety of tools to apply Marmorino KS, including these must-haves:

Preparing your walls for Marmorino KS Venetian Plaster Application

Unlike Grasello Fino and other finer Venetian plasters that require extremely smooth, brand new walls or surfaces, there is some room to start with existing drywall texture when using Marmorino KS. For example, if your walls currently have an orange peel texture, you may be able to simply knock down the very high points with a Painter’s Knife, prime, and trowel on Marmorino KS. That said, if your walls are more of a heavy knockdown texture, we would recommend filling in this texture with a joint compound. This will mostly save on cost as well, since alternatively, your first coat of Marmorino KS would be thicker, and more expensive. Thus, it’s most cost-effective to simply use joint compound to fill in drastic or extreme textures on existing walls. We’ve had to do this, and while time-consuming, it’s worth the additional effort. Prior to applying Marmorino KS, you’ll also want to prime your walls with a Quartz Primer, which has grit to it. Once dry, it will feel similar to sandpaper if you run your hand over it. This specialized primer will help the Venetian plaster adhere to the wall.

Application Process

The Marmorino KS application is typically a two-coat process. The first coat serves as the base layer with the second and final coat compressed into the first and then burnished to result in the matte finish with light sheen and movement. Before applying, make sure to mix the venetian plaster with a power drill fitted with a mixer attachment. This is not a step you want to skip. Firstly, if your plaster has been pre-tinted, it’s important to ensure it’s been fully mixed. We’ve made the mistake of skipping this step when we first started out and ran into a good amount of unmixed plaster at the bottom of the bucket once. Additionally, when you receive the plaster it usually will be much harder in texture. Mixing it pretty drastically changes the consistency making it much smoother to apply. So don’t skip this step, it will make the overall application process an easier and happier one.

First Coat

The first coat of Marmorino KS should go on fairly smooth. While it is still considered a coarser Venetian plaster, it has less aggregate in it, so you still should be getting a smooth application. Because Marmorion KS is applied in only two layers, it’s important that you apply it evenly. This coat will be what gives movement to the final look, so it’s always good to practice proper technique before starting on a full room or real project. You’ll also want to be mindful not to overwork the product while applying it with your trowel. In this layer, you do not want to go over the plaster so much as to accidentally burnish it. After the first layer is applied, ensure it fully dries before going on to the next.

Second Coat & Burnishing

The second coat should be a more compressive coat, pushing the plaster into the first coat with less remaining on the wall. Moving in 3×3 foot increments, you’ll want to apply the second coat and when it has slightly dried, but not fully, go back to burnish it, applying even pressure with your burnishing trowel in many different directions.

Sealing and Protecting Marmorino KS

Coarser Venetian plasters tend to be more porous, so sealing it is an important step in protecting the plaster. For Marmorino KS, we’d recommend using a Soapstone Sealer. This is essentially soap, or savon de marseille. This French soap comes in a liquidy gel-like form, and is troweled and then buffed to remove the excess.

Final Thoughts on Marmorino KS Venetian Plaster

Marmorino KS is our favorite Venetian plaster, and again, the one we’ve used in many rooms of our home. It’s relatively simple to apply, can be tinted to a variety of colors, and give a subtle, classic, and timeless look. We’d recommend Marmorino KS for just about any project, from living room walls, kitchens, bathrooms, fireplaces, and more, you can’t go wrong with choosing Marmorino KS for your next project.

Hey guys welcome back to another video today we’re checking out one of our favorites Marmorino KS. You probably heard us talk about it before because it’s definitely one of our favorite Venetian plasters. It’s what we’ve applied in our own home, and we just love the look it gives you. This is a lime-based plaster; has marble in it. The reason why we love Marmorino KS is that it gives you the movement of kind of a traditional Venetian Plaster but it’s more on the matte, kind of eggshell side of things so it’s not, it’s not overly glossy but it still gives you a really nice sheen, polished look, but it’s not like gonna give you that mirror finish. So, it’s definitely like a nice in between plaster that we love and we’ve just loved the look of it. Marmorino KS is a coarser plaster but it’s not as coarse, as some of the other plasters, so that’s why I kind of see this as like a happy medium. And that’s why we like it so much it’s, it’s a coarse Venetian plaster but it’s not, it’s like the middle ground, I call this like if you kind of want Venetian plaster walls you don’t want super shiny but you don’t want super textured, Marmorino KS. Marmorino KS can do a lot of different things, because it is in the middle there so you can definitely get it pretty shiny, and you can also do it more of a matte and more textured look. So, it’s very versatile, and this is probably like if, if somebody asked me what like, I want the traditional kind of like old Venetian Plaster look that I would definitely recommend Marmorino KS, so that’s why we keep going back to it. I don’t know, there’s probably some contention out there which one’s the best but I love Marmorino KS. So that’s from my opinion to you guys, Marmorino KS is definitely my favorite. We’re going to apply this in our two-coat process. We have a pre-primed MDF board. If you guys are new here make sure to subscribe. And definitely, give us a thumbs up if you enjoy this type of content that helps us know that this is something you guys want to see, leave comments if you have questions about product or application or whatnot, I’d love to respond to you guys. Yeah let’s get let’s get applying. So today we have like a nice light beige color so hopefully this shows up okay on camera, sometimes a light beige colors look just like white on camera so I’m hoping this shows up okay but we’ll go ahead and apply some here.

Alright so our first coat, dried and now we’re gonna apply our second coat, and then we’ll burnish right after that.

All right, well let it dry and we’ll come back and show you the final look. So here is our final look at Marmorino KS. Definitely more of a matte look, you’re definitely gonna not see as much movement on this lighter color but you can get a lot of movement out of Marmorino KS with darker kind of colors, but you still get that nice sheen from the side, it’s not a crazy amount of sheen, you’re not going to get super super high gloss out of this, but it’s definitely more sheen than some of the other coarser Venetian plasters. Marmorino KS definitely goes on a lot smoother and a little bit… It’s a little bit less grainy, when you’re applying it, the aggregate in Marmorino KS is a little less coarse than some of the others so I really liked Marmorino KS for those specific reasons I tend to like a little bit more of a matte look more. Marmorino KS obviously has a wide use case here, but anyone that’s looking for more of a matte to eggshell type look who likes a little bit more subtlety with their Venetian plasters, I think Marmorino KS is perfect for that. So hope you guys enjoyed that. Let me know in the comments if you have any questions or want to see different products give it a thumbs up if you enjoyed that, and we will see you guys next time.
